The Most Wanted PlayStation 3 Games of 2011

0 komentar

Most Wanted PlayStation 3 Games2011 is well and truly underway and as we wave goodbye to a fairly varied year, we look forward to a whole bunch of new video games to get us through to the next firework day. But what games are worth looking forward to? We intend to answer that very question by compiling a list of our most wanted games of 2011. This week, we will be showcasing the most promising games of 2011 with a different console each day. Today, we will go through our PlayStation 3 list. Check back each day this week for PlayStation Portable, Xbox 360, Wii, Nintendo 3DS and DS and finally XBOX 360!

Most Wanted PlayStation 3 Games

Duke Nukem Forever
Gearbox
2k Games

After almost 14 years in development, it looks like Duke Nukem Forever will finally see light of day in 2011! Will it be good? or will it be overhyped? Time will tell, but at least it’ll see a console release. The story of the game is probably more than enough reasons for you to buy it.

Basically, Duke is playing his own video game whilst having sex with the “Holson Twins” in his “Lady Killer” casino as he waits for his interview to begin on a talk show. As he’s waiting (and playing the game, while having sex), the power goes out. When Duke goes to investigate the outage, a young fan hands him a jetpack for some reason, which he uses to jet to the top of the casino. There’s a giant alien mothership there, presumably kidnapping his various strippers. And so the game begins…

Worth the wait? So far, so good.

Most Wanted PlayStation 3 Games

Silent Hill: Downpour
Vatra Games
Konami

No. We’re not “over” Silent Hill. Sure, there have been some questionable iterations – and the movie was okay – but who can really get over the horror series that made us all crap our pants back in high school?

Downpour is still set in Silent Hill, but it explores the SouthEastern area of the town for the first time. The iconic hospital and/or school are absent, and the game’s story is not connected to the originals in any way. The developers have also mentioned that water will play a prominent role in the game. You’ll also be amused to know that your character will only be using one weapon at a time, and said weapons are prone to breakage.

There’s only one thing we need to fix before this one comes out “sometime” in 2011; the R18+ issue. Sigh.

Most Wanted PlayStation 3 Games

Mortal Kombat
NetherRealm Studios
Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment

Ed Boon is back! The man who invented the “totally rad” Mortal Kombat series was one of only four people who worked on the original game back in 1991. Since the age of polygonal 3D, the series has taken somewhat of a down turn in terms of awesomeness. Now, however, a brand new development studio headed by Boon, NetherRealm Studios, has been made specifically to bring MK back to it’s roots.

And the game looks mad. The game has been made with the “casual gamer” in mind, simplifying awesome “fatality” moves and other great looking combos. The team have also invested a lot into the story of the game, pointing out that the series’ plot had been largely ignored in previous games in favor of gameplay.

Oh yes – there will also be bucket loads of blood.

Most Wanted PlayStation 3 Games

Metal Gear Solid: Rising
Kojima Productions
Konami

What happens when you take the immortal stealthy series Metal Gear Solid and merge it with the Havok Physics Engine? You get one of the most frantic “must have” titles of 2011, that’s what.

In Rising, you’ll be controlling Raiden and unlike the other games in the series, Rising will be a fast-paced action title. What’s more, the game is centered around the “cutting”. Cut and take, to be precise. As you power through the levels, you’ll be slicing up cyborgs and robots, taking parts and life from them in awesome style.

Did we mention the game will be rendered in 3D? This will be one of the coolest titles of 2011.

Most Wanted PlayStation 3 Games

Killzone 3
Guerilla Games
Sony Computer Entertainment

Speaking of cool titles, it doesn’t come much cooler than Killzone 3. Guerilla have taken some of the feedback from Killzone 2 and are implementing some changes into number 3. For a start, the developers are focusing on a more “light-hearted” approach to the story.

With the Beta release well underway, we wont have to wait too long. Killzone 3 will be released at the end of February. The game is also being purpose made for 3D, so there will be lots of eye candy to be had!

Most Wanted PlayStation 3 Games

Journey
thatgamecompany
Sony Computer Entertainment America

Journey is probably one of the most impressive downloadable titles we’ve seen in a while. If not for gameplay, then atleast visually. Journey is an online game set in a mysterious world. Players can play alone or with others and one of the most interesting aspects is that you will never know who you’re playing with.

The idea is that you wont know who or where the player is – or their age for that matter – but you will know that they’re another human being. This opens up unlimited possibilites. But perhaps the most intriguing thing is the developers are really working hard to replicate the feeling of sand in the game. Your character will slightly sink into the sand, leaving footprints in it’s wake that will gradually be covered due to the wind. Journey looks impressive and we can’t wait to get out hands on it.

Most Wanted PlayStation 3 Games

Infamous 2
Sucker Punch Productions
Sony Computer Entertainment

Not that I can talk – but what’s with the hero’s names these days? Cole McGrath is back in Infamous 2 this time exploring New Marais, a brand new city. The cool thing about the game is that it seems you can import your earned reputation from the original title, meaning all those hard hours were not in vain.

The team at Sucker Punch are also including motion capture for the character movements and the cut scenes, meaning a more realistic experience is to be had. The open world, mind bending physics-based gameplay is in tact and Infamous 2 sits proudly in our list of most wanted.

Most Wanted PlayStation 3 Games

I Am Alive
Ubisoft Shanghai
Ubisoft

We loved “Disaster: Day of Crisis” for Wii, despite it’s mixed reception. There’s nothing like a post-disaster survival game to inject pure intensity into our gameplay experience. And that’s exactly what “I Am Alive” hopes to achieve.

After a massive earthquake ruins the city, it’s up to you to keep alive, keep hydrated and save survivors who are trapped under various degrees of rubble. For some reason, there are also enemies – and random citizens will try to take your stuff. The game is set from the first person perspective, and you’ll have an arsenal of weapons at your disposal. Adding to the excitement is the ability to drive abandoned vehicles – we think Ubisoft is onto a winner.

Most Wanted PlayStation 3 Games

The Last Guardian
Team Ico
Sony Computer Entertainment

Let’s see… Young boy? Check. Gigantic, man eating eagle monkey? Check. Looks like we have an “action/adventure” title on our hands.

In The Last Guardian, you control a kid who meets a gigantic half eagle, half something monstrous beast whom you’ll have to take care of. As you progress through the game, you’ll have to use the beast’s nature to solve puzzles. In one example, you may have to get the beast to stand on a specific spot, so you’ll have to throw barrels to gain it’s attention to make it move over. Actions will directly effect Torico’s (that’s the beasts’ name) psychological condition. When you are fighting, for example, Torico may not be able to protect you if there is some kind of psychological conflict.

Anyway, it looks mysterious and cool. An epic in it’s truest form. We’ll have to wait till around December 2011 to play it, though.

Most Wanted PlayStation 3 Games

Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception
Naughty Dog
Sony Computer Entertainment

Had you worried for a moment there, didn’t we? What kind of PlayStation list would this be without mention of Uncharted 3? An oddly characteristic list, that’s what.

But regardless, we added it in. Because it looks sweet. Drake is back and will be forced to explore real-world locations such as the Rub’al Khali desert in search of the legendary and arguably generic “Lost City”. The gameplay has been revamped to include some new moves, better enemy AI and realistic environments. But the icing on the cake?

You guessed it – 3D. Another late release, though – we’ll be waiting until November 2011 to play this one. From what we’ve seen already, it may well be worth the wait.

That’s our list for PlayStation 3 Most Wanted of 2011! Tomorrow, we’ll be bringing you our list of most wanted PSP games of 2011. Don’t forget to check back every day this week as we present our most wanted from Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii, Nintendo DS and Nintendo 3DS and finally, PC

Getting started and master Netflix for Wii

0 komentar

Getting started with your Xbox 360How to stream movies and TV from your Nintendo console Gaming consoles have come quite a way in recent years in terms of adding functionality above and beyond simply playing amazing video games. The Nintendo Wii, Sony PlayStation 3 and Microsoft Xbox 360 have all added tools and programs to further the user's experience and create an added value. One example of this kind of functionality is using Netflix to watch instant streaming movies and episodes of television series right on your TV without the need for any additional hardware aside from the game console. All three consoles have Neflix functionality at this point, but we'll focus on getting Netflix streaming content working on the Wii console.

Getting started and master Netflix for Wii

Getting started and master Netflix for WiiNetflix is one of the most popular media rental services on the planet, so there's already a pretty good chance that you have a Neflix account. However, if you don't, the first thing you'll need to do is create one. There are several levels of service subscriptions that Netflix offers, but the bare-bones, $8.99/month subscription is really all you need to watch all the streaming content you want. You can set up an account online in a matter of minutes, and once your account is active you can begin watching streaming content right on your computer. However, to watch your Netflix content for free on your Wii you'll need to complete a couple more steps.

Getting started and master Netflix for WiiSince you're already online with your Netflix account, simply navigate your address bar to www.Netflix.com/wii. From here you'll be able to order a free Wii Netflix disc with just a few clicks of your mouse. After completing this step you'll be able to relax for a few days while you await your disc to come in the mail. This is a great time to start building a list of content you plan on watching using the Instant Queue tool provided by Netflix. After logging into your Netflix account you can begin browsing instant streaming content using the Instant tab near the top of the screen. All of the content in this category is available to watch immediately. Unfortunately, not all of the content on the entirety of Netflix is available in instant streaming form, but you'll find that the majority of high-demand and popular content is. Once you find a movie or show you want to save to your queue, simply move your mouse over the "Watch" button and another small button will pop up above it saying "Add to Instant Queue". Click this, and your program is now saved to your Instant Queue until you decide to delete it later. After spending a good amount of time building your perfect Netflix library,it should be just about time for your disc to arrive in the mail.

Getting started and master Netflix for WiiPlace the Netflix Wii disc inside your Wii console and boot it up. Click the Netflix icon that now appears in your Disc Channel and wait a moment. From here you'll receive an activation code that will allow your Wii console to work hand-in-hand with the Netflix streaming service. Log in to your Netflix account using your computer and again navigate to netflix.com/wii. Here you'll be prompted to enter your activation code. Enter it and press the "Activate" button. After this your Wii will be authorized to work with Netflix.

Getting started and master Netflix for WiiAlmost immediately your Netflix Instant Queue should pop up on your screen, showing all of the content you've chosen using the computer-based tools you used earlier. You'll also be presented with several huge playlists of content based on different categories like Comedy, Horror and Drama, regardless of whether or not you have built your own Instant Queue, so you'll have plenty of stellar content to watch no matter what. However, if you took the time to build an Instant Queue, or chose to at any time in the future, your Wii will then suggest other content to you based on things you've watched from your queue. This is a fantastic feature that really pushes fantastic content to you that you may have otherwise missed. As of the time of this writing, there is no search feature included with the Wii version of Netflix. This means that whenever you want to search for any specific movie or television program you'll need to log on to your Netflix account using a computer. We can only hope that a full content browser is added at some point in the future, but as of right now the tools in place do a good job of allowing you to find content perfect for you, even if it takes just a little digging.

So there you have it; a fantastic and simple way to watch streaming Netflix content right on your TV, without the need for any hardware besides that little white Nintendo box you have anyway. If you have an Xbox 360 or a PlayStation 3, the process is a bit different, and we'll have guides on how to use Netflix for those two consoles shortly as well so be sure to check back!

1.   Double tap space bar for a period -

When typing on your iPhone, double tapping the space bar at the end of a sentence automatically enters a period followed by a space. No need to press "123" to get to the numbers and symbols page where the period typically resides. I use this trick daily and it heavily increases my typing speed (especially when texting).

2.  Tap the bottom corner to navigate home screens

When on your home screen, try tapping the bottom right/left corner to switch between pages instead of swiping your finger accross the screen.

3.   Take out your SIM card during backup and sync -

We've all experienced it. You're backing up and syncing your iPhone, and the hour long back up is nearly complete. Then all of a sudden you get a phone call, and the whole back up/sync is null and void.

To avoid this happening, simply start the backup/sync, then pull out your SIM card. Do not worry, this does not damage your phone at all. Put it back in once everything is complete. This way, your backup won't get interrupted.

This tip is also useful if you need to make a phone call while your iPhone is backing up/syncing. Since unlocking your phone cancels the process, just take out your SIM card, pop it in your old cell phone, and call away.

4.   Move "dock" icons

You'd be surprised how often this tip is overlooked. The 4 icons located on the grey bar at the bottom of your iPhone - Phone, Mail, iPod, Safari - are movable, just like the rest of the icons. Just press and hold the icons, then drag them while they are shaking. Press the home button when you're done. You can put any 4 icons on your dock.

In the screenshots, note the difference between pic 1 and 2.

5.   Automatically capitalize and add apostrophes

The iPhone automatically capitalizes certain words ("I" when you type "i"). It also automatically adds apostrophes ("I'm" when you type "Im").

6.   Double tap a column on Safari to fit-to-page

When browsing the Internet on your iPhone's Safari browser, double tap any column, word, or picture to fit it's width to your iPhone's screen. This is extremely useful for reading blogs.

The first screenshot is the page when it firsts load. The second screenshot is the page once the main text was double tapped.

7.   Manually select the icon image for a bookmarked webpage

This one's a little more confusing. When you are browsing a website on your iPhone's Safari browser and want to add its icon to your home screen, press the plus sign and select "Add to Home Screen".

The image in the icon, however, is a screenshot of the page you were on. So if you want the icon to look a specific way, zoom in on a particular item on the page. Whether you want the website's logo, or some picture on the page, simply zoom in on that part of the page before you press "Add to Home Screen".

Note: This doesn't work with all websites. Popular sites like Google have special icons for the iPhone's home screen.

Bookmark1

Go to your website of choice.

Bookmark2

Zoom in on your favorite part.

Bookmark3

Press the + sign and choose Add to Home Screen.

Bookmark4

Name the bookmark appropriately (Digg - Apple).

Bookmark5

Now that exact part of the webpage is displayed in your icon.

8.   Your iPhone's headphones have a multi-function button!

You'd be surprised how many people don't know that the iPhone's native headphones have a button on the microphone.

Just squeeze the microphone together, and the button gets pressed.

The buttons functions:

In call...

  • Press once to answer a call
  • Press twice to send the call to voicemail
  • Press once to hang up a call

In call while second call coming in... [thank you silver0fox]

  • click once to hold current call and switch to new call
  • hold for 2 secs and release to ignore new call

Out of call...

  • Press once to activate iPod and play song
  • Press once to pause song
  • Press twice to skip to next song

And, as ever, if you’ve got suggestions for more iPhone magic not covered here or in our previous Keyboard Shortcuts post, you know we want to hear them in the comments below.

1. Change the Spotlight Search Result Order

The iPhone’s Spotlight Search functionality is a great improvement from early incarnations, but you can make it even more relevant to you just by tweaking the settings.

In the “Settings” menu, go to “General,” then select “Spotlight Search.” You are then presented with a list of categories. By touching the three bars icon next to each category, you can change the order of how the phone presents search results.

This feature can be an extremely useful time saver, as it prioritizes search results based on what you’re most likely to look for (e-mails, apps, contacts, etc.).

2. Lock the Screen Orientation

A great feature for anyone who reads iBooks in bed, you can now lock the screen on your iPhone to stay in the portrait orientation and avoid that annoying wobble between portrait and landscape you can get in certain situations.

To activate the lock, tap the home button twice, then scroll to the screen on the left, at which point you’ll see a square gray icon with a circular arrow on the far right. Tap this to lock the screen (you’ll see a locked icon in the top right of the display now) and unlock by tapping again.

3. Change the Display to White on Black

This one falls under the iPhone’s Accessibility features as it offers a high contrast, more easy-to-view display, but it can also be employed just to make your phone look a little different.

To make the change, head to “Settings,” then “General,” then “Accessibility” and then toggle “White on Black” to “On.”

The colors on your phone’s display are now inverted, however, the Apple magic that makes this happen must have something to do with the phone’s display, rather than a software change, as you can’t export screen grabs showing this setting. To see the effect in action, you’ll have to make do with our real-life photos.

4. Create a Homescreen Icon for Any Website

This is a really nice option for anyone who regularly visits websites that don’t offer their own app. You can easily add a one-touch shortcut for any webpage to your homescreen in the iPhone’s Safari browser.

Simply load up the site you’re interested in and then press the “+” on the bottom of the screen. Select the “Add to Home Screen” option.

You can then label it something appropriate. Now, as the screenshot below shows, there will be a shortcut icon to the site on your homescreen.

5. Use the Front-Facing Camera for More than FaceTime

The iPhone 4′s front-facing camera isn’t just about FaceTime. You can also use it to snap quick portrait pics (as above) and even record video of yourself.

To access the front-facing camera, go to the main camera and then hit the camera with an arrow icon on the top-right corner. This switches the view to whatever the front-facing camera sees, meaning you’ll be able to see yourself on the screen to press the shutter at the correct moment.

To toggle between capturing stills and video, it’s the same as the main camera — slide the toggle from either icon at the bottom of the phone’s screen.

6. Open and Save PDFs in iBooks

The iPhone offers handy “Quick Look” functionality for viewing PDFs, but what’s even cooler is that you can auto-save them into iBooks and then access and view them from there.

Simply press and hold on the PDF icon and you’ll see the option to “Open in iBooks.” Hit this, and the PDF will be ported over, and be available to view in the app from then on.

7. Turn iBooks Into Audio Books

Another one of the iPhone’s Accessibility options for the visually impaired, the “VoiceOver” feature is a gesture-based screen reader.

Using slightly different controls (double tap to select and three fingers to scroll), VoiceOver essentially reads aloud what is on the phone’s screen.

Aside from the obvious uses for the visually-impaired, this also means that iBooks can become audio books. To activate it, go to “Settings,” then “General,” then “Accessibility” and toggle VoiceOver to “On,” at which point you get options to tweak the settings (the speed of reading) and try out the new controls.

Once activated, if you head over to your iBooks app, VoiceOver will read your selected texts to you. It might not be something you want to employ that often, but tired eyes might appreciate having a book read to them at certain times.

8. Manually Add Pins to Maps to Mark Locations

In the iPhone’s Maps app, you can add pins which make navigating to a point or sharing your location super easy to do.

In Maps, you’ll see a blue Post-It-style note icon on the bottom-right corner. Tapping this will give you the option to drop a pin. Selecting this drops a purple pin in the map, which you can drag to exactly where you want it.

Now that you’ve placed your pin, you’ll see a label that hovers over it. This leads to even more functionality.

Clicking through on the label gives you the options to get directions to that point, from that point, and also share that location via e-mail or text message as well as bookmark it. We think this functionality could be super useful for navigating your way back to your car, or a camp site, for example.

And while we’re on the topic of Maps, here’s a bonus tip. Did you know that hitting the arrow-shaped icon on the bottom-left of your display will activate the phone’s compass and show you on the map exactly which direction you’re facing? Clever, huh?

9. Swipe to Delete

There are some handy features for deleting messages more quickly. The most common way to delete multiple messages in e-mail is to hit “Edit,” select the messages you want gone, and then hit the big, red delete button. Alternatively, you can simply swipe to bring up a delete option.

In your inbox, swipe your finger from right to left across a message and you’ll see a delete button appear. Press it and the message is toast.

Gmail users, however, may only get the option to “Archive,” so if you’re using Gmail you’ll have to tweak your settings first. To do this, go to “Settings,” “Mail, Contacts, Calendars,” “Google Mail” and then toggle the “Archive Messages” option to “Off.” This will now reveal that delete option.

This swiping trick can also be used for phone messages, Notes and more.

10. Add Folders to the Dock

The ability to create folders is one huge improvement brought with iOS4, and is a very popular feature when it comes to organizing and accessing apps. In using folders, there’s a neat trick that will let you have all your most-used apps on your phone’s homescreen.

To create a folder, just press and hold any app until it starts wiggling. Then, drag the app into another app that you’d like to include in the same folder. The iPhone will automatically generate a name for the folder based on its contents. You can edit this name by pressing and holding the folder icon.

Once you’ve got your folders made, if you clear something less useful out of the dock (you can only have four things in at a time) you can drag and drop your folder into the dock for super-fast access.

With clever folder creation (Work, Play, Phone, Tools, etc) you could pretty much have everything you need one tap away from the homescreen, rather than scrolling through endless screens of apps.
